It took me quite a while to sell my first painting. It wasn’t so much the lack of offers, as a few friends enquired as soon as I started to share my pictures on Facebook, but more a sort of emotional attachment to the art … created due to the time and effort that goes in to a piece. However, eventually I got to the stage where I was struggling to find places in the home to hang pieces and I realised that I was going to have to let some go. The process was aided by a good friend (and old business mentor) in Chicago … and hence the very first sale , ‘Arthur’ went to the USA.
It’s now hanging in his corporate office and I get regular messages that it has become a bit of talking point with visitors and that it makes many people smile. This is wonderful to hear, as my whole inspiration to paint is to have some fun and if that translates in to making others smile too, I’m a very happy guy.
Letting go of Arthur released the shackles and hence when a local friend approached me asking about Leo the Lion, it was no longer a problem to agree to part with him … especially as that’s her star sign! So goodbye Leo … I have loved having you on display in my art room, but it’s time for you to make someone else smile every day.
